Hello Everyone
The worst of the snow seems to have gone now.  I ventured out for the first time on Wednesday!  I only hope we have seen the last of the downfalls.  I don’t know about you but I feel far worse in cold or wet weather and just long for the summer and hopefully some warming sunshine!  Meanwhile it’s a case of wrap up warm and get on with life.
I had a very encouraging email this week from one of my readers who, having lost her benefits, appealed, won her case and got nearly two years backdated benefits.  It does pay to be persistent.  Don’t take NO for an answer.

Fibromyalgia in Danger of Being Labeled a Mental Disorder
By Karen Lee Richards, Health Guide

People who have fibromyalgia, ME/CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome), chronic pain and any number of other chronic illnesses are in serious danger of being labeled as having a mental disorder.

The DSM is published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and contains the diagnostic codes used by doctors for mental disorders.  Read more . . .

 Central Sensitivity Syndromes, and more

Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome have always been illnesses seeking proper classification, as they've never fit neatly into an existing category. Now, a term created especially for these illnesses and others like them is becoming more prominent. See what "central sensitivity syndromes" are and what they have in common, below.
Also this week, research is saying flu shots are just fine for people with ME/CFS, and new research on juvenile chronic fatigue syndrome after mononucleosis.

Stress may trigger fibromyalgia symptoms. Minimizing stress can improve your quality of life. Some proven stress busters are yoga, exercise, sleep, and meditation. Breathing deeply and exhaling slowly can also help. Or keep in mind activities that you enjoy or that make you feel better. When stress strikes, do one or two of them.

Medications That Rob Vitamins and Minerals Also Delay Healing
The Road to Recovery Requires Re-evaluation…

Many of you who are trying to recover from the damages of gluten sensitivity may not have looked at your medications as a potential to create nutritional deficits and subsequently create health problems.  Often times the health problems caused by nutritional deficits are the same issues we face with gluten exposure.  This can lead to long term confusion and failure to address the full scope of our illnesses.

Death by a thousand needles: The debilitating condition that leaves sensitive sufferers in excruciating pain
It is a chronic condition that renders sufferers so sensitive that even the lightest touch triggers waves of excruciating pain. Fibromyalgia is thought to affect up to a million Britons, commonly women over 40, and experts have likened the debilitating sensations to ‘death by a thousand needles’.
Other symptoms include lack of concentration, memory loss, headaches and muscle stiffness. And for a long time there was little doctors could do to help quell the agony.
Yet today, with the help of sophisticated scanning techniques, pain specialists have been able to pinpoint the parts of the brain responsible for the condition.

N.B.   I would like to point out to you that the information in my eNews  blog is passed on to you mainly from other sources.   Links are given to the original articles.   I take no responsibility for their accuracy but freely give them publicity if I think they might be of interest to my readership.  Sites I refer you to are  for information only.  They might conflict in their opinions, they might not even be medically sound, but I merely offer them for you to peruse and make your own judgements, accept or reject as you will.  Only by reading widely can we get an overall picture of fibromyalgia syndrome and how we can deal with its symptoms, learn to cope with them and still have a life.  Any advice or recommendation of a medical or legal nature should always be discussed with a qualified professional.
I also include various awareness items, benefits issues, as well as general health considerations.    Anyone wishing to reproduce any of the included items in printed form should seek permission from the originators.
