A Happy New Year to You All
I hope you had a very happy and peaceful Christmas.   I have been wanting to create a suitable logo for this blog.  When I did the Christmas one with the symbolic star and holly it inspired me to use the star with lettering.  Stella is the Latin word for 'star'. The Virgin Mary was formerly given the byname 'Stella Maris', meaning 'star of the sea'.  My name is Stella Mary!   So now we have a logo.  Suggestions are always welcome for improvement.
I wasn’t sure whether I would be able to produce an eNews this week, but I have gathered a number of things together, so here goes:-

Multivitamins: So Many Types, So Many Labels
By MELINDA BECK

Your mother made you take them. Many doctors agree. Even the Flintstones seem to endorse them. But do you really need a multivitamin?
How do you know if you need a multivitamin? And how do you choose which one? Melinda Beck explains.
The answer is ... probably not, although much depends on your age, gender, diet and health. One thing is certain: A one-size-fits-all multivitamin can't precisely meet everyone's needs. People over 50 need extra vitamin B-12, but not as much iron as many multivitamins contain. Children who take adult multivitamins may be getting too much vitamin A. And many women need a separate supplement to get extra calcium, since it's too bulky to fit into a multivitamin.

FibroMadness

Fibromyalgia causes millions of people all over the world to suffer, and while there is finally new research into this disease, many questions remain unanswered. For instance fibromyalgia was labeled as fibrositis, (First labeled by Gowers in 1904), and later rheumatism, etc, until the American College of Rheumatology agreed in 1990 to diagnostic criteria, (11 or more specific tender points throughout body.)

What causes fibromyalgia? The history of fibromyalgia is  very old has only recently received the attention needed to find the cause.

What to do when going gluten free doesn’t help you…
Going Gluten Free is Not Always Enough to Heal

The status of the body after being exposed to gluten for years and years prior a medical diagnosis is not ideal.  Typically, a person will have developed 1 or more autoimmune diseases.  The internal chemistry favors inflammation, and the nutritional status of vitamins and minerals is suppressed and deficient.  These factors can work against the body’s ability to heal, and in many cases, the body will not begin to heal until these factors are addressed.

The Last Push to Get Through Christmas with Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

The holiday season can wear on just about anyone, and that goes triple for those of us with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome.
As we enter the last week before Christmas, it's important to take stock of where you are, both in terms of how much you have left to do and in terms of how you're feeling.

Flu Shots: Yes or No for Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Fibromyalgia (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) involve dysfunctional immune systems. The flu can be especially hard on us. So we should get flu shots, right?
You didn't expect an easy answer, did you? With FMS & ME/CFS, it's never simple.
The flu shot contains dead flu virus, and while most people's immune systems do just fine with that, many of us do not.

Falls Linked to Poor Sleep in Fibromyalgia

A recent study linked falls in people with fibromyalgia to poor sleep the night before.
This research supported earlier work suggesting that falls were especially common in this illness and sought to find out why. Researchers determined that there's a significant increase in fall risk after a bad night of sleep that leaves you fatigued.

Sleep Disorders in Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

What's Making You Tired?
Sleep problems are among the most common complaints of people with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. In fact, fatigue and waking unrefreshed are part of the diagnostic criteria for both conditions.
In addition to these sleep-related problems, sleep disorders are common in people with fibromyalgia.

Pet Therapy Reduces Fibromyalgia Pain

Animals provide unconditional love without judging you for having a medical condition that most people don’t understand. Depending on the animal, they can also be expensive and time-consuming to care for on a regular basis. But a new study shows you may not need to be a full-time caretaker to reap the benefits of pet therapy.

Handling Gloomy Days

One patient wrote to us asking, “How are we supposed to deal with the cold winter days ahead when the sun doesn’t shine?” Good question. It’s hard to keep an upbeat attitude if it looks gloomy outside, especially when your chronic symptoms are already negatively impacting your mood.
If you find yourself struggling to maintain a positive outlook at any time of the year, consider using some of the self-help tips provided below to stay entertained and help keep your mind off your fibromyalgia symptoms.

Reform
The Government is committed to enabling disabled people to fulfil their potential and play a full role in society.
Crucial to this is the reform of Disability Living Allowance – a lifeline for many, but which is simply not working in its current form.
In the last 10 years the number of people claiming rose by over a third, from around 2.4 million to 3.2 million.
And expenditure is now far in excess of initial estimated costs.
This year DWP expects to spend over £13 billion on DLA
